A new poll commissioned by WW news partner KATU finds the two statewide Democratic incumbents facing re-election this year are holding steady with their sizable leads.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley had as 19-point edge in the survey of 564 voters over his Republican opponent, pediatric neurosurgeon Monica Wehby. Merkley's lead, which the poll by SurveyUSA put at 52 percent to 33 percent, was essentially the same as a June poll that gave him an 18-point lead.

Gov. John Kitzhaber is maintaining his margin over his GOP challenger, state Rep. Dennis Richardson. The survey found Kitzhaber has a 48 percent to 35 percent lead over Richardson. The governor's lead, 13 points, is almost identical to a June survey.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percent and was conducted Aug. 1 to Aug 5.
