While the Senate Finance Committee passed a health care bill out of committee today in Washington DC (with the support of Oregon Democrat Ron Wyden
) some Portlanders are planning a sit-in this Thursday at Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield
to demand an end to insurance abuse and promote a single-payer health care plan.
The local protest by Mobilization for Health Care
will be one of at least nine coordinated civil disobediences at insurance company offices across the country that day.
“We want people [for the sit-in] who have been through training, but the level of interest is quite high. There is a considerable amount of frustration,” says Portland coordinator Chris Lowe. “We want it to be a very nonviolent, safe respectful event.”
The sit-in is Thursday, Oct 15, 10 am, at Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, 100 SW Market St.
