No big surprise here, but it is now official: Oregon voters will be deciding in January whether to overturn permanent increases in the income tax on wealthy state residents, and in the minimum tax paid by corporations.
Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown announced today that
anti-tax groups gathered enough signatures to refer the increases passed by the 2009 Oregon Legislature to the Jan. 26 ballot.
One safe bet: millions of dollars will be spent by
Oregonians Against Job-Killing Taxes to repeal the tax increases
urge passage of the two referenda and by
Defend Oregon — which said today that repeal supporters "in order to protect the narrow interests that are funding their campaign ... are willfully trying to kill two measures that will help the very people who've been hurt most by this recession."
