On Friday, city Commissioner Nick Fish's chief of staff Sam Chase announced his departure
after little more than a year on the job. Today, Fish — who faces re-election next May — announced his new chief of staff will be City Hall veteran Betsy Ames
Ames' City Hall experience dates back nearly 15 years to January 1995 when she was appointed as assistant ombudsman for then-Mayor Vera Katz, whose chief of staff at the time was Sam Adams.
Ames worked in Katz's office until 2002 as a senior policy manager, serving as a liaison to the Bureau of Planning, Bureau of Buildings/Office of Planning and Development Review, Parks, and Transportation.
Since 2002, Ames has been the assistant director for the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, working on housing and legislative issues. Her appointment to work for Fish takes effect Nov. 2.
