An update today to this week's Hey, Neighbor!
item on the "River Rat."
The FBI says the so-called River Rat
robbed Chase Bank
in Vancouver by gunpoint today, marking his seventh bank robbery in the last two months on both sides of the Columbia River (hence the "River Rat" nickname).
The River Rat's
list of past bank robberies include:
Columbia State Bank, Portland- Aug. 7
Key Bank, Vancouver- Aug. 11
Riverview Community Bank, Portland- Aug. 19
Columbia State Bank, Puyallup, Wash.- Aug. 24
Riverview Community Bank, Portland- Aug. 24
Albina Community Bank, Portland- Sept. 18
Additionally, authorities say the River Rat
may be responsible for up to 10 different robberies at other check-cashing stores in Oregon and Washington.
"I just can't believe this guy hasn't been recognized yet," says Pat Schaffer, CEO of Riverview Community Bank
, whose cameras provided the photos taken of the River Rat. "When we catch him, I'm going to be sitting in the front row of his arraignment."
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the River Rat's arrest and conviction. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his 20's-mid 30's with a medium build, and who sometimes wears a black athletic jacket or a gray hoodie, a baseball cap, dark sunglasses, or latex gloves. Anyone with a tip should call Det. Scott Smith
at the Vancouver Police Dept. at (360) 487-7416 or the FBI at (503) 224-4181. More information can be found here
