the writer of bloody, foulmouthed, hilariously nihilist plays so popular that Portland theaters have produced five of his six plays in the last nine years, has announced that his next work will be titled A Behanding in Spokane.
The press release, as quoted on New York magazine's Vulture blog
, reads, "Take a man searching for his missing hand, two con artists out to make a few hundred bucks, and an overly curious hotel clerk, and the rest is up for grabs.” As with his previous shows, you would probably be well advised not to sit in the front row."
We highly doubt that McDonagh, an Irishman, has ever been to Spokane, but we look forward to the show's Broadway premiere in March (and inevitable Portland production in 2012) with glee. Spokane!
