More Tough News For Oregonian Staffers (UPDATED with developments at other Newhouse papers)

The latest piece of bad news landed today in The Oregonian's newsroom.

The grim details on top of past rounds of bad news at the daily:

—the paper's lifetime guarantee of employment for full-time staffers will go away;

—staffers must take an additional six furlough days;

—and staffers will pick up a quarter of their health insurance premiums.

Of course, few papers are immune to cost-cutting measures these days. But these steps at The Oregonian on top of all its previous cost-cutting moves show just how dire things are in some places.
