Another Delay for the Baseball/Soccer Deal

Next Thursday's City Council agenda says commissioners will vote on two out of three key commitments on the combined baseball-soccer deal.

But Commissioner Randy Leonard just told WW all three votes -- on the site location for baseball, the pre-development agreement and the competitive-bidding exemption -- were being postponed again, meaning there's a new delay in the project that was supposed to be approved April 15.

As late as this afternoon, Leonard told WW the idea was to have a new financial agreement with Merritt Paulson on where to put his new baseball stadium by the new deadline, Thursday, May 7. City officials met Thursday, April 30, with Paulson, and they are expected to meet with him again Monday, May 4.

A spokesman for the mayor did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
