Another Debt-Collection Lawyer Gets Slapped by the Bar

As the recession drags more consumers into late payments and default, another prominent debt-collection lawyer in Oregon has been disciplined by the State Bar.

The latest issue of the Oregon State Bar Bulletin out this week reports that Daniel Gordon, a lawyer from Eugene who files lawsuits against debtors across the state, was publicly reprimanded Feb. 23.

You may recall Gordon from a WW story last year about another Eugene debt collector, Derrick McGavic, who ran afoul of the bar and people he sued.

According to the Bar Bulletin article (PDF), Gordon continued to pursue in court a debt that had already been paid. Gordon "failed to check his record and determine that the defendant had made payments and had satisfied her debt," the Bulletin says.

Gordon did not respond to a phone call and email seeking comment.
