I don't know why I never got into biking as a sport. Although it's the best way to get around town, it seems pretty equipment-intense to take up as a hobby. And I don't trust myself to fix my own flat or chain out in the middle of nowhere. I have trouble opening spaghetti jars. It just seems foolhardy.
For all the sporty women out there, who just haven't gotten into biking for one reason or another: Bike N Hike's grand re-opening this weekend is for you. The retail chain is sponsoring a full day of women-specific events on Saturday, April 25
, designed to highlight Bike N' Hike's huge array of women-specific retail offerings.
Morning rides (the advanced group gets to ride with Bike N Hike's guest, 2000 Olympics silver medalist Mari Holden
) kick off the day, followed by a free brunch, free barbecue (!!!!) and clinics on basic maintenance. Bike Poker (whatever that is) and a raffle drawing for prizes will finish off the festivities. No fee, and no registration. Just show up in your spandex and you're good to go.
If the overly gearhead-y nature of cycling has turned you off to it as a sport--oh, and if you're female--this would be a great time to figure it all out and maybe revise your opinion. If not, it's still free brunch and barbecue!
No waiting in line for hours at Podnah's! Woohoo!
