From The Archives: Memorial Coliseum Isn't Always Moribund

If you're interested in tonight's open house on tearing down the Memorial Coliseum, you know that much of the discussion about razing the coliseum to make room for a new minor-league baseball stadium has turned on how outdated the 49-year-old coliseum is.

Some folks are using the coliseum's architectural history as a worthy reason to save it. And certainly the building also has plenty of sports history to draw upon. But here are a couple more modern-day instances where the coliseum has proven more valuable than an afterthought home for Portland Winter Hawks games.
