If you see TV cameras while staggering between
MusicfestNW venues tonight, give 'em your most disaffected sneer:
Portlandia, the IFC improvisational comedy starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, will be shooting incidental footage at MFNW over the next several days.
At a mini-junket luncheon today at Besaw's, Armisen (the
Saturday Night Live Obama impersonator) and Brownstein (the Sleater-Kinney guitar goddess turned actress) told a macaroni-munching scrum of media that
Portlandia is shooting an episode revolving around a citywide music festival similar to oh-you-know-what, but with a different name.
The episode, which shoots next week, will include a touring indie-rock supergroup played by The Shins' James Mercer, The Decemberists' Colin Meloy, and Corin Tucker.
Other disclosures from today's group interview: Guest stars on the 19-day shoot have included
Selma Blair, Gus Van Sant, Steve Buscemi and Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza (playing a Portland State University student trying to pick up some supplies at In Other Words).
Portlandia has shot a skit in
Mayor Sam Adams' office, where Adams played an assistant to the mayor, played by Kyle MacLachlan. It's a strange world.
UPDATE, 5:01 pm: I learned on the
Portlandia set that, while shooting his episode several weeks ago, Kyle MacLachlan envisioned his mayoral character as
"jealous that Portland doesn't have a baseball team and Seattle has a baseball team, so he asks Fred and Carrie to help him get a baseball team," according to a series producer. John Canzano imitates art!
