Earthquake Awareness Month Is Almost Upon Us. Here's What To Do

Did you know next month is Earthquake Awareness Month? I must confess I didn't until the concerned folks at Portland's Office Of Emergency Management let me know all about it.

Turns out they've got me — and anybody else now on a last-minute scramble for related events to attend — covered.

On April 1, the city office says it "will host a compelling and sobering presentation on earthquake risk in the Pacific Northwest." The festivities run from noon to 1 p.m. in the second-floor auditorium of the Portland Building (1120 SW 5th Ave.).

The main presenter of all kinds of scary scenarios (and ways we can be prepared for them) to be James Roddey, earth sciences information officer from Oregon's Department of Geology and Mineral Industries.

Worth noting: The geology department's abbreviation is DOGAMI. But if you're in a Word Jumble kind of mood, that can be re-arranged as IAMGOD. Sounds like they might have special insight worth hearing about upcoming disasters.
