Leaders of the powerful Portland firefighters' union are meeting Thursday to discuss whether to inject themselves into the
scandal brewing around Mayor Sam Adams.
Ken Burns, president of the Portland Firefighters Association Local 43, tells
WW that union leaders will decide Thursday morning whether to take the issue of whether to call for Adams' resignation before the union's executive board.
Leaders of the Portland police union have already
called for Adams' resignation. And Burns says the firefighters' union — which is sometimes credited with making or breaking City Council candidates by granting or withholding their support — could do the same.
Burns says the decision is so serious that union leaders would want input from the entire membership before the executive board takes a vote. Leaders on Thursday will decide whether to put the issue on the executive board's Feb. 9 agenda.
