UPDATE: The Attorney General's office just sent out this press release:
January 21, 2009
STATEMENT OF THE OREGON DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
Yesterday evening, Multnomah County District Attorney Michael D. Schrunk and Portland Chief of Police Rosanne M. Sizer requested that the Oregon Department of Justice undertake a criminal investigation of matters pertaining to Portland Mayor Sam Adams that have recently come to public attention. The Department of Justice has agreed to do so. The investigation will be thorough, fair, and professional. Under our system of laws, all persons are presumed innocent until proven otherwise beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The Department of Justice has no further comment at this time.
has learned Attorney General John Kroger will take over the investigation of Mayor Sam Adams.
That decision comes after the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and Portland Police decided the investigation was best handled at the state level. The announcement is expected later today.
All this comes two days after Mayor Sam Adams confessed to having lied
about having sex with a teenager.
