UPDATED Adams' Admission Reaction: Majority of Mayor's Colleagues Ask AG to Investigate

In a sign that Mayor Sam Adams' support is eroding, three of his four council colleagues —commissioners Nick Fish, Amanda Fritz and Randy Leonard— have signed a letter asking Attorney John Kroger to open an investigation into the conduct of Mayor Sam Adams, WWire has learned. Commsisioner Dan Saltzman is out of town and could not be reached.

As reported earlier on wwire, Kroger has already agreed to open an investigation in response to a request from Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schrunk and Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer, so the request is redundant.

But the significance of the letter is that, rather than defending Adams, the politicians closest to him are affirmatively seeking an investigation. Because the Portland Police Association has already asked Adams to resign and because he had a conflict with chief Sizer last fall over who would run the bureau, that investigation cannot be carried out by Portland authorities.

Adams said yesterday at a press conference that he would "welcome" an independent investigation.
