Team Willamette Week Wins the 2010 Softball Championship!

IMG_2244

SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION: Congratulations team Willamette Week! Last night under the bright lights at Farragut Park's field, Willamette Week defeated defending champion the Slammer to win the 2010 Sunday Softball crown—and the giant trophy that goes with it. Team WW—led by captain (and MusicfestNW assistant) Dan Winters and graphic designer Adam Krueger—won by a final score of 9-5, and held the Slammer scoreless until the final inning. The best part? The trophy (check the slideshow for pictures) is ours to keep for the next 364 days.

Mr Mannheimer, this would seem less shameless WW self-promotion were you to include the box score and a recap, including a description of the Slammer squad's contribution to the contest, which does not appear to have been much of a sporting event as it has been described. As well, you might review WW's path to the championship -- the litter of defeated teams and shattered dreams. Your readers need to know whether the O and Mercury, for instance, are still able to mount competitive nines, or however many it takes to fill a contemporary, politically correct softball field. And, probing the darker side, we need to know whether the players were tested for steroids, intoxicants, or other stimulants.

We weren't tested for intoxicants. We were required to use them.
