The block of NW 23rd Avenue closest to Willamette Week's office, on NW Quimby Street, became a little piece of heaven for the petite bourgeoisie with the opening, in recent months, of: All for Paws,
a dog and cat supply store; Let it Bead
jewelry store; Ecce Domus,
a furniture store selling sustainable and reclaimed teak; and Casa del Matador,
a restaurant and tequila bar.
And across the street, new two-bedroom condos with 1,000 square feet sell for $314,983.
So it's with a certain degree of delight that I welcome our newest neighbor, in the ground-level retail space below those expensive condos: Mary Jane's House of Glass.
With its neon signs hanging in the windows, rows and rows of pipes and what looks from the outside like spray-painted decor, Mary Jane's House of Glass is to Northwest Trendy-Third what your crazy uncle is to the rest of your family, the guy whose mere presence at the table for Christmas dinner strips the rest of you of all your pretentiousness. Welcome, Mary Jane!
