Long Island's
Hempstead Union Free School District decided last night to rename
Ludlum Elementary School for President-elect Barack Obama. And the change takes effect immediately, according to a receptionist in the Hempstead school-board office today.
Which makes Strong Island WAY cooler than Portland (by virtue of its swift action alone.)*
You might recall Portland Public Schools
is in the process of re-christening the awkwardly named Clark K-8 @ Binnsmead, and students there have suggested Obama's name. But Portland's process is its usual multi-step, year-long pursuit, meaning it won't reach the PPS board for a vote until the end of the school year probably.
*The above sarcasm is not an endorsement of
rushed decision making.
