Filson is hot.
As in the room that now holds the brand new Filson store in the Pearl District
, at 526 NW 13th Ave., was very warm last night at its very-VIP preview event. And it smelled like Christmas.
"That's because we use cedar hangers," said one of Filson's employees. "The moment we pulled them out of their boxes they filled the room with this wonderful scent."
I was on the scent to see what this longtime Seattle-based store would be serving for nibbles and nosh for its opening party now that it's planted roots in Portland. And I wasn't disappointed. Voila Caterers handed out duck breast and salmon cucumber rolls and some filo pockets full of pumpkin. It was all good.
As was the hunter/fishing/outdoorsy clothing that hang on the racks of what has to be one of the most beautiful new boutiques to hit Portland in recent months.
Sure the shades-of-Sarah-Palin moosehead was a bit overwhelming, but the fashions themselves seem to blend in perfectly with the old-school vibe of those who attended the event and the West Hills crowd that will certainly shop it shelves. Maybe their top-of-the-line sweaters and coats are a wee expensive (and probably something you don't want to get dirty, even though that's the whole point) but the polos are no more than what you'd pay at Macy's (around $45).
