Here's another critically acclaimed comic-erotic-drama from Czechoslovakia for your consideration - so sue me. Jan Hrebejk and Petr Jarchovsky's Beauty in Trouble
follows a Prague housewife played by Anna Geislerová, deprived of her house in the wake of 2002's flooding. Living with her mother and crudely vicious stepfather, she becomes torn between her imprisoned husband and a genteel suitor who can help provide for her two children. The use of music from the Irish indie musical Once
is sort of confusing and a bit too uplifting for my tastes, but the dysfunctional melodrama looks engrossing all the same.
Beauty in Trouble
is not rated and should open in December at Living Room Theaters.
