Last month saw British comedian Steve Coogan's charming American debut in
Hamlet 2 (
reviewed in WW, August 20, 2008). This coming week, his countryman Ricky Gervais, creator and star of
The Office—the original, British program—makes his own modest proposal to stateside moviegoers, starring in the romantic comedy
Ghost Town. The trailer suggests bland Frank Capra whimsy, but who better than sleazy misfit Gervais to ensure that It's a Miserable Life? I would watch him in anything, and the addition of Greg Kinnear and Téa Leoni is icing on the cake.

Ghost Town is rated PG-13 and opens Sept. 19.
