The presidential candidate whose 2000 campaign got a big boost
from enthusiastic Portland crowds has qualified for the November ballot.
The Oregon Secretary of State's office announced in a news release today that the Peace Party has gathered the 25,000 signatures needed to qualify as the state's sixth minor statewide party.
(The others? Constitution, Independent, Libertarian, Pacific Green and Working Families.)
As pointed out on Jeff Mapes' blog
, the Peace Party's website
subtly spells out "Vote Nader" in the first letter of each paragraph below the heading "Peace — By Popular Demand."
Portland lawyer Greg Kafoury, Nader's state organizer, declined to confirm for the record whether the party is associated with Nader until a news conference scheduled for 4 pm today.
Stay tuned to WWire for an update from the presser.
