The Spanish-language press is hot with
the news that PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is now pulling publicity stunts
en Español.
¡Qué lindo!
According to the
website for the animal-rights group, PETA activists have sent a letter to the commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the hopes of striking a deal to buy new ad space at border crossings.
The message of the ads?
•
Si no te agarra la migra, te atraparan el pollo y las hamburguesas. Sé vegano.
•If the border patrol doesn't get you, the chicken and burgers will. Go vegan.
"By leaving behind a far healthier staple diet of vegetables and grains—like rice, beans, corn, peppers, and tortillas—Mexicans and other immigrants will likely find themselves fattening up on the fiberless, fatty, cholesterol-laden U.S. diet, which is linked to heart disease, various types of cancer, and strokes (our nation's three biggest killers) as well as impotence (internationally recognized killer of the mood)," a blog post over at the PETA website says.
As a type this, an ad for McDonald's is scrolling across WWire. Which makes me think: How do you spell Hamburglar in Spanish?
