Lots of you know by now (thanks to plenty of coverage in both WW
and the Merc
) that it's Hush Records' tenth b-day. What you might not know is that, for this particular birthday, you
, lucky Hush fan, are the one receiving a gift.
Correct-a-mundo: Hush is giving
you yet another swell collection of songs, this one titled DECA
and celebrating, if you hadn't guessed, a decade of rad music by Hush artists. Attendees at this Saturday's Aladdin Theater-hosted anniversary show—where, it is written, Laura Gibson, Loch Lomond and Nick Jaina shall unite and become the indie-folk equivalent of Voltron (if you can image that)—will receive a FREE copy of DECA
before it becomes available to the general public next Tuesday, July 15.
Check the list of mostly previously unreleased (!) tracks, plus a li'l blurb on the release from Hush founder Chad Crouch, right here:
We are delighted to share a party favor with the rest of the world with DECA: A HUSH 10th Anniversary Compilation. It's a rare snapshot of an invigorating cross section of artists mostly calling Portland home. Worth noting, the majority of its 28 tracks are previously unreleased. The attention to detail shows not only in the quality of the songs, but in the 30+ page pdf booklet that accompanies it.

And here's a fancy sneak-preview sample track by brand new Hush outfit Solid Home Life. SHL features one of my fave Hush songwriters, Mr. Greg Olin (Graves), and vocalist Lindsay Schief (of Olympia's LAKE) crooning about sheeps and stuff—it even has a brief vocal cameo from a neighing horse! It is, quite appropriately, called "Petting Zoo." Enjoy!
