Are you an ellie or an arss? A red or a blue? A Dem or a ‘Pub? Well whichever direction you lean politically, Portland-based company
Moonstruck Chocolate has made you a treat (unless you're an Independent, in which case, no treat for you!). On Monday, Moonstruck released their
“Election Collection ‘08” which features adorable little two-bite truffles shaped like elephants (R-Ore.) and donkeys (D-Ore.).
A taste test conducted by
WW's intern department (we get paid in candy and high fives) has deemed the chocolate beasts quite satisfactory.
Each Moonstruck Cafe location is keeping a scoreboard which tallies the amount of donkeys and elephants sold. As of Thursday morning, donkeys are outselling elephants 123 to 88 at
Portland's five metro area locations. The Moonstruck Cafe at 526 NW 23rd Ave. has completely sold out of Election Collection '08 chocolates for this week. And the Pioneer Place location has sold out of donkeys. The only store that has sold more elephants than donkeys is the 608 SW Alder St. location, which has elephants leading donkeys 5-3.
The donkeys look like they're stoned (no surprise) and the elephants look like they've got something to hide (also, no surprise), but once you bite their heads off none of it matters. The Republican elephants, made of Extra-Bittersweet Ganache, have a much stronger taste than their Democratic counterparts which are smooth, creamy and made of Mayan Ganache (milk chocolate, cinnamon and crushed almonds).
The political morsels are available to order online or can be bought in Moonstruck Cafes (but can sell out at certain locations). Election Collection '08 will be available to order through Oct. 20
(that's just over two weeks before Election Day, so try to save a few for a victory chomp).
Here's the Moonstruck store-by-store breakdown, for an early palate poll:
