Greg Oden vs. Blake Griffin in the Blazers' First Preseason Game?

Picture 15

The Portland Trail Blazers' preseason schedule was released today. And while these things are generally pretty un-thrilling, the Blazers' first matchup against the Clippers on Oct. 5 could be interesting: If both players are healthy and their respective coaching staffs see fit, this could be the first time Greg Oden and Blake Griffin (the top draft picks from 2007 and 2009, respectively) face each other in the NBA.

It's a prospect that probably seems pretty thrilling to fans of the Zers and Clips, seeing as how neither group has seen much of its ballyhooed bigmen (Griffin has yet to play a game; Oden missed his entire rookie season and a heck of a lot of games in his two active seasons). If this momentous occasion indeed comes to pass (now or, you know, ever?), let's hope they don't knock knees, eh?

The Blazers will also return to Memorial Coliseum on Oct. 11—if you missed the Blazers/Suns matchup there last year, try and make it out to this one: It's a total blast. And in addition to the preseason schedule announced today (see dates below), the league announced a few preliminary regular season dates. Portland opens its season Oct. 27 in Los Angeles against the Clippers; and the Blazers are in Golden State on Christmas Day (ideally with Don Nelson still coach and totally shitfaced on nogg). The full regular season is set to be announced a week from today.

Blazers preseason engagements:
Tuesday, October 5 vs. L.A. Clippers (7:00 PM, Rose Garden)
Thursday, October 7 at Utah Jazz (6:00 PM, EnergySolutions Arena)
Friday, October 8 at Denver Nuggets (6:00 PM, Pepsi Center)
Monday, October 11 vs. Utah Jazz (7:00 PM, Memorial Coliseum)
Saturday, October 16 vs. Golden State Warriors (7:00 PM, Rose Garden)
Monday, October 18 at Golden State Warriors (7:30 PM, Oracle Arena)
Thursday, October 21 vs. Denver Nuggets (7:00 PM, Rose Garden)
