Beginning May 12, longtime Blazers play-by-play maestro Brian Wheeler will host a sportstalk radio show on the new all-sports radio station 95.5 "The GAME," according to the station's programming director, Jim Derby.

This morning Derby confirmed that Wheeler's show, "Wheels After Work," will air from 7 to 8 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays—and will feature Wheeler riffing on the entire world of sports, not just Blazers fanfare.

"Brian's background is sportstalk," Derby said. "He heard the same rumors about (The GAME) forming. Once we made it official, we've been talking to him, figuring out how to make everything work. Obviously, he's a big sports fan, so you're going to hear him talking about everything - from the NFL, to college football, and of course, the NBA."

Last week Rose City Radio officially announced the station changeover. That switch will mark the demise of Jammin 95.5's hip-hop format and place "The GAME" as one of the few FM sports-radio stations in the country. It will also add a second sports-radio station to the local dial, on top of the ESPN-friendly 1080 "The Fan". "The GAME" is set to carry Blazers, Seahawks and Ducks games, along with talk shows like The Jim Rome Show, "The Bald Faced Truth" with Oregonian sportswriter John Canzano, and "The Morning Sports Page" with KATU sports director Katy Brown and sportswriter Ken Vance.
