It's not a new story, exactly, but KPSU radio has got it goin' on with live music. Last night I was lucky enough to sit in on a set from Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster of the Thermals (shoulda taken pictures!), who were appearing on LC contributor Arya Imig's program, Sound Judgment. The seated BFFs were rocking out stool style, and revealed a handful of new Thermals songs (upbeat tunes performed with guitar, a single snare drum and the duo's voices) along with a set-ending favorite from More Parts Per Million
, "Back to Gray." The highlight of the live broadcast, though, might just be Hutch Harris noodling on guitar before he realizes that the duo is on-air.
As if that weren't enough, our old intern Michael Mannheimer had Andy Furgeson of insect fanatic folk outfit Bark Hide and Horn on his KPSU show, Half and Half, which aired directly before Sound Judgment. Here's that performance:
KPSU is currently in full-on fund raising mode, and the Hutch and Kathy appearance was to promote the duo's April 18 show at The Modern Age (with—deep breath—Reporter, Typhoon, Strength and the Vonneguts). More on that here
In addition to fund raising shows all over town, KPSU Magazine Issue 3 is scheduled for an April 25 release at Ground Kontrol. More info on that here
SO MUCH KPSU! OVERLOADING! GAH!
