Super XX Man Joins Tender Loving Empire Roster; TLE Plans First Birthday Show

tle_birthday_poster72 copyOne of our favorite lil' record labels in town, Tender Loving Empire, announced earlier this week that it has added one of our favorite lil' Portland folk-pop acts, Super XX Man, to its roster. TLE sent out a press release regarding Super XX Man's Volume XII: There'll Be Diamonds earlier this week, and it sounds quite worthy of our stokedness:

A marked shift from the gentle folk-pop sound that fans throughout the Northwest have become intimately familiar with, Volume XII is, according to singer/songwriter Scott Garred, Super XX Man's "most sonically ambitious album to date."

The new album features thirteen songs "chronicling the lives of persons with mental illness," says Garred, a subject he knows firsthand through his work as a music therapist at the oldest psychiatric institution in his home state, the Oregon State Hospital.

TLE also notes that Super XX Man has put albums out on at least three labels, which makes for Garred's parting of ways with that fine Portland staple, Hush Records, a little less of a shock. Both releases for Hush were fine efforts that you sorta owe it to yourself to check out. Super XX Man has always been one of the more soothing acts in town, and I mean soothing in the best way, not the boring way—so we don't expect "sonically ambitious" to mean prog metal.

For a taste of Super XX Man's prior radness, check out this fine tune from Volume XI: A Better Place, out now on Hush:

For even more on XX, you can read Amy's review of X, or her diary from hitting up SXSW with Garred and company.
