Portland Lounge Series XV Sunday: Night Wounds, Feather Figure
After a two month absence from the docket, LocalCut's Portland Lounge Series is back in action! What's going down at Towne Lounge (714 SW 20th Pl.) this Sunday? A night of noise! And as always, it's free! So are you up for getting down to some of Portland's best experimental music?
Bike, walk, bus, drive or board the MAX (get off at the PGE stop and walk one block West) and what will you encounter when you enter Towne Lounge at 9 pm?
Night Wounds is a trio of experimental punks out to tear up a stage anyway they can. Musically that involves a plethora of instruments—including a saxophone—and vocals that are as lackadaisical as they are commanding.
The shouty troupe could easily fit into the "Bizarro Jerry" episode of Seinfeld. You know, the one where Elaine befriends people who mirror Jerry, George and Kramer. What does this have to do with Night Wounds? Well, the band has a bit of a mirror-affect going on, as it began in Portland, Maine.
How do the two cities compare? I'm gonna ask them.
The rhythmically inclined threesome has quite a bit of vinyl to its name including a split with the fearsome Montreal quartet AIDS Wolf.
Feather Figure's Nathan Howdeshell loves noise and embraces that love in this new solo venture of his! Perhaps you're a fan of his guitar rendering in the Gossip as Brace Paine, or his turntable skills as the Chain. Or maybe you're still a bit downtrodden from missing your chance to catch his previous noise project—with notorious noise maker John Weise—Xeaxx Xeaxx (pronounced "Heavy Seals").
Now is your chance! This is Feather Figure's first Portland showing! He's been spending his time of late practicing with a chainsaw for this very occasion.
Feather Figure is light on vocals, but heavy on otherworldly pizzazz. Come get lost in the audible echos of Nathan's mind. It's a bit like vacant chaos with a melody if you care to find it.

So where will you be this Sunday? All together now: at the Towne Lounge this upcoming Jan. 31, for a FREE evening that'll treat your ears to the sound of Portland's noisy local underground. This is the fifteenth edition of PLS, so come party down with us as if it were your Quinceanera, minus say the gowns and Spanish-speaking. It will still be a fiesta with both live music and interviews for all to enjoy. Well, almost all, as Towne Lounge is 21+.
