fimg001-1A huge congrats to local coffee champs! Albina Press' Billy Wilson and Kevin Fuller placed first and third respectively among about 20 professional baristas last weekend at the Northwest Regional Barista Championship in Seattle. The Albina Press (4637 North Albina Ave., 282-5214), which is considered by many to be the best coffee shop in coffee Mecca Portland, pulls its shots with Stumptown beans and will open a second location on Hawthorne Blvd. in December.

Check out a play-by-play, with photos, of Billy Wilson's winning round at the Barista Championship over on the NWRBC site.

Read Zach Dundas' October 2006 WW story about coffee culture, "Bean Town," which mentions Albina Press, Wilson and Fuller. Or check out Karla Starr's lead up to NWRBC 2006: "Iron Baristas."

Food Dude has an awesome, detailed write up about the specifics of the NWRBC event over on portlandfoodanddrink.com.
