Win a pair of tickets to see Youngblood Hawke!

Youngblood Hawke captures the sound of 5 friends in mid-journey. It is the snapshot of a state of mind where, one mountain has been climbed, and there are more in the distance. But for right now, the view is beautiful.

At the end of the day, these artists have found their way in Youngblood Hawke, and the path is brighter than ever. “We’ve seen the bottom and the top,” concludes Katz. “Things get bad, and then they get good again. The music is about being hopeful and never giving up.”

Win a pair of tickets to see Youngblood Hawke, Saturday May 25 at the Hawthorne Theatre.  Supported by Pacific Air and Adventure Gallery.

Win a pair of tickets to see Capital Cities!

Capital Cities' dual frontmen Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian--jingle writers who first met on Craigslist--released their debut EP in 2011. Lead single "Safe and Sound" shot to #2 on Hype Machine, #1 on CMJ's A&R chart and #1 on South American radio.

Carefully crafted melodies, lead vocals sung in unison, and clever production built partly on a vintage analog synth, the Roland Juno 106. Out came “Safe and Sound,” “Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast,” “I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo,” “Center Stage,” and “Love Away,” which Merchant and Simonian released collectively as an independent self-titled EP. The set attracted a groundswell of positive reviews from such influential blogs as Neon Gold, who called it “a sonic head rush” and “a beautiful slice of effervescent electro-pop that absolutely kills it,” and Clixie, who praised its “outside-of-the-box tendencies — jam-packed full of life, energy and unusual yet fantastic sounds.”

Win a pair of tickets to Danny Brown!

Danny is an unconventional hip hop artist employing multiple flows and cadences thus the moniker of “The Hybrid”. His style varies from low pitched gravely tones to a manic, high pitched, squawk.

His experimental sound melded with traditional street narrative has brought about attention from progressive press such as Pitchfork.com, Fader Magazine, Spin Magazine and the like but no press more satisfying than making the cover of the Detroit Metro Times, his hometown’s alternative art’s and culture magazine.

Win tickets to Live Wire! Radio!

Win a pair of tickets to Live Wire! Radio, June 1!

Show line-up:

KRISTEN SCHAAL & SCOTT JACOBSON

According to the Onion AV Club, Bob's Burgers "can balance chaos and bizarre cutaways with legitimate insight and character development" which is a neat trick for any show but even more so for a Fox animated comedy. We'll be joined by comedian Kristen Schaal (30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, The Daily Show) and writer Scott Jacobson (The Academy Awards, The Daily Show, TV Funhouse) to talk about how they bottle that particular brand of animated lightning.

JEN KIRKMAN

Jen Kirkman is a stand-up comedian based out of Los Angles and a regular contributor to Funny or Die's Drunk History, which is about what it sounds like. (You can see her star turn here.) She also regularly appears on late-night talk show Chelsea Lately and has a number of comedy albums out. Her first book, I Can Barely Take Care of Myself: Tales From a Happy Life Without Kids, was released in April.

DAN SAVAGE

Dan Savage writes the internationally syndicated sex advice column Savage Love for Seattle's The Stranger and man, has he got some advice to give about sex. He's written over 700 columns, appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and The Colbert Report, and contributed segments to This American Life. His book credits include The Kid: What Happened When My Boyfriend and I Decided to Get Pregnant, Skipping Towards Gomorrah and The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage and My Family.

LISA HANAWALT

Lisa Hanawalt is a Brooklyn based cartoonist and contributer to The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Vice, McSweeney’s, and The Believer, among others. You don't see Marmaduke getting that press, and Marmaduke is great. Do the math on that. Her newest book My Dirty Dumb Eyes will be out on May 28th.

COURTENAY HAMEISTER

Courtenay's going to be reading an essay. Does she really need a bio blurb? She was hosting the show, like, yesterday.

THE BUILDERS AND THE BUTCHERS

The Builders and the Butchers make music like a circus train with no brakes. Which is to say powerfully and without regard for the consequences. To date, the they have 3 full length albums out, including Dead Reckoning from Badman Recording.

Win tickets to see The xx!

In 2010, The xx won the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album. Their second album, ‘Coexist’ is an album of confident adult reflection. Angels, sung by Romy, is a perfectly distilled love song. Its counter is Fiction led by Oliver, a bittersweet ballad that’s strength lies in naming its fear. What has changed for The xx? Nothing, and everything. Older and wiser, surer yet still so tender, ‘Coexist’ finds itself on the other side of heartbreak, when the light returns.
