[UH, POP?!] We tend to pigeonhole PDX Pop Now! as a summer festival, but the organization does so much more—including putting out the best annual compilation of Portland music you\'re bound to find anywhere. Even as the compact disc marches towards its shallow grave, this year\'s compilation is a current-as-hell encapsulation of what Portland sounds like. There are the breathtaking new cuts (from glittery electro-pop outfit Wild Ones and their good friends My Body); the awesome, out-of-nowhere tracks from bands we feared for dead (like the Ocean Floor\'s breathtaking and orchestral \"The Last Four Years\" and Archers\' stunning \"Super Blues\"); the big-timers (M. Ward and Glass Candy); and nutty stuff from acts we\'ve never heard of (the \'80s-loving Federer and the mathy, batshit Pardee Shorts). Tonight\'s rare all-ages Holocene engagement features a cross-section of the best acts on the comp—man, Sun Angle is rad—and the cheap cover price includes a copy of the two-disc compilation. Happy summer, kids!
