The Dead Kenny G's

[PUNK JAZZ] A band can’t coast on a funny name alone—though if it could, Seattle’s Dead Kenny G’s would be solid. And a group can’t garner listeners just by being a trio of fucking weirdos making weird music, though Dead Kenny G’s comes close. What makes the trio so intriguing, then, is the fact it comprises three masters—legendary single-name taxman Skerik, percussionist Mike Dillon and bassist Brad Houser—tossing every influence they can into the mix, creating a weird blend of acid jazz and harried punk on last year’s sophomore release, Operation Long Leash. The result is what Zappa might have sounded like if he were weaned on the Sex Pistols: an oddball cacophony of sounds that wouldn’t make sense coming from anyone else.
