PWRHAUS, White Hinterland, Old Friend

[AVANT-CHAMBER] The few auspicious tracks Portland septet PWRHAUS has released online beg comparison with Grizzly Bear. Not only are the fluttering lead vocals a sound-alike of Ed Droste’s, but the group’s sparing use of its veritable chamber ensemble of keys, horns and drums favorably recalls the Brooklyn band’s experimental baroque pop. R&B vanguardist White Hinterland, aka Portland’s Casey Dienel, opens, and if you haven’t explored her lunar soundscapes yet, do yourself a favor and turn out early.
