Deep Fried Boogie Band, Thollem Electric, RLLRBLL

ROBERT HAM

[SHAPE SHIFTER] Pianist Thollem McDonas is a musical chameleon of the highest order. Blink once and you’ll find him bleeding over the keys as he pounds out free jazz with collaborators such as Nels Cline or Arrington de Dionyso. Blink a second time and he’s plinking out delicate solo instrumentals or backing up former Can singer Damo Suzuki. Tonight, he’ll be in his Thollem Electric guise, wherein he sits at a Rhodes electric piano and turns that well-known instrument into a sonic weapon via the use of a variety of effects pedals and the strength of his muscular visions of creative chaos.
