Deep Sea Diver, Wild Belle, Lemolo

[INDIE ROCK] I once watched an entire Beck performance with my eyes fixed on the entrancing female guitarist instead of the well-known dude onstage. I found out later the guitarist was Jessica Dobson, the lead singer-guitarist-keyboardist for Seattle’s Deep Sea Diver. Similar to frontwomen such as Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards and Chan Marshall of Cat Power, Dobson possesses the kind of vocal pipes suited for the center of the stage. Although she’s now a regular member of the Shins and has accompanied the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Spoon on tour, Dobson and her own band are gaining traction. In conjunction with playing a slew of shows this year, the three-piece released its debut album, History Speaks, which encompasses a nice blend of upbeat badass-ery and lush beauty proving Dobson to be a spellbinding leading lady.
