[DOLLY PARTON 2.0] Lindi Ortega’s vocal presentation can make any man’s tie flutter. Sure, there’s a last-call feel about her heart-wringing, old-style country stance, but that’s what makes Ortega special. Big labels will throw highly manicured backing bands behind her, but Ortega—I’d like to think—is just a moonlight preacher. The Nashville-by-way-of-Toronto songwriter released Cigarettes & Truckstops earlier this year, an after-hours medley that caught the production attention of one T-Bone Burnett. And if it’s good enough for T-Bone, it’s plenty good for the rest of us.
