[POP POWER] Adult Books’ debut six-song cassette came out in September, but I am only now getting my ears on it, and I have this sick sense the last three months of my life would have been so much groovier with this puppy by my side. Bobbing in the sweet spot between choppy surf punk and stoned, beach-bound languor, the Southern California trio’s sound is certainly of-the-moment—Wavves, Terry Malts and Surfer Blood come to mind—but Adult Books takes bummer-summer vibes and turns them into shimmering pop songs that transcend whatever weather you’re trapped in.
