Toni Elling, a self-described protégée of DukeEllington (from whom her name derives), dates back to an earlier wave ofburlesque, namely 1960 when she decided that as a black woman, burlesque might hold better financial opportunities than her job at the phone company. Elling makes an appearance at Bergamont Burlesquealong with Portland regulars Madison Moone, Hai Fleisch, Itty Bitty Bang Bang, AngeliqueDeVil and others. Vincent Drambuie emcees; partial proceeds will be donated tothe Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. HEATHER WISNER.
