Katherine Thompson's oil painting, Toro, bursts forth with expressive dollops of tomato red, barely contained by a Rouault-like latticework that recalls stained-glass windows. A halo of cerulean envelops the composition, cradling it like a baby. Thompson's work in this vein reads as pure abstraction, while pieces such as Mindscape come across as abstracted landscapes. While these medium-format works are inventively hued and composed, Thompson's smaller-scale paintings are not nearly as compelling. Through Jan. 30.
