Hey Marseilles

[ORCHESTRAL FOLK] Over the last four years, the career of Seattle’s Hey Marseilles has steadily gained momentum. With the upcoming release of its sophomore LP, Lines We Trace, the band has finally reached a sound that’s more settled than its first album’s saturated odes to travel and wanderlust. The sextet’s most defining characteristics have always been lush and sweeping layers of violin, cello, accordion and various acoustic instruments that push and pull their way around frontman Matt Bishop’s folky vocals. But where the group’s first record often overloaded the senses by unleashing all its forces at once, Lines We Trace finds a balance between grand crescendos and subdued instrumentation, lending greater appreciation to the moments of both accumulation and calm.
