Twisted Whistle
9 pm., Sunday March 24 | $8.
[AMERICANA] If Portland quartet Twisted Whistle’s Through the Mill came blasting to life on a jukebox in a late ’50s Appalachian roadhouse, it’s hard to imagine anyone even batting an eye. The band has steeped its sound firmly in early rock and twangy Americana, and it’d be easy to mistake its members for relics of the past—that is, until Kina Lyn Muir’s voice comes roaring like a banshee through the ether. That voice elevates a solid blend of everything from dark country balladry to bluegrass, rock and doo-wop, and the result is a jagged time capsule that can only get more interesting as time goes on.
