Polyrhythmics

AP KRYZA
9 pm., Saturday April 13 | $12.
Alhambra Theatre
4811 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

[LOCALIZED FUNK] Seattle octet Polyrhythmics has spent the past three years lighting up the I-5 corridor with a reverent, precision-based form of funk and Afrobeat orchestrations that, in a region rife with predominantly white kids making Fela-lite, is uncommonly authentic. The relevance to the source material is uncanny, but it’s the flourishes—the modern funk vibe and fleeting shots of rock energy—that set the band apart from imitators. This isn’t just I-5 Afrobeat spawned in the Pacific Northwest that stands out merely by not being indie rock. It’s a global sound that transports you into a funky realm all its own.
