Family of the Year, the Mowglis

RUTH BROWN
8:30 pm., Sunday April 21 | $13 advance, $15 day of show.
Wonder Ballroom

[INDIE BAND OF BROTHERS] L.A.’s Family of the Year writes pitch-perfect road-trip music—sweet, sunny indie-pop made for cruising to beach holidays and lazy camping trips with your window down on a warm spring day (this hypothetical is happening in a place that actually gets spring, of course, so don’t try this in Portland). While not especially original, Welsh-born brothers Sebastian and Joseph Keefe and their bandmates artfully blend male-female harmonies, handclaps and folksy acoustic guitar into something that is at once comfortingly familiar yet never tired or trite. “Stairs,” the best track on the band’s 2012 LP, Loma Vista, kinda sounds like Big Star covering an Elliot Smith song. You’ll know how it goes as soon as you hit “play” on the car stereo, but you’ll put it on repeat anyway.
