[DEAD AGAIN] Thousands of people spent huge chunks of their lives following the Grateful Dead around on tour. Chicago septet Dark Star Orchestra has one-upped them by spending the past 15 years living in the band’s shoes, reenacting the Dead’s impressive live repertoire and presenting mostly exact replications of actual sets from throughout the band’s career. Call it Dick’s Picks: The Stage Show. But classic-rock LARPing this ain’t. The band doesn’t play dress-up or succumb to the urges of simply impersonating its idols. This is quality musicianship played straight with an acute attention to detail. The result is a time capsule come to vivid life.
