[LESS RESTLESS NATIVES] With 2010’s Gorilla Manor, an impressively full-formed debut of Afropop-influenced, youthfully urgent rock, L.A. quartet Local Natives became one of just a few standard-bearers for its genre in a city better-known lately for R&B, rap and electronic music. The warm critical reception of the band’s hotly anticipated follow-up, Hummingbird, has Local Natives carrying that banner yet higher, even as the record, shaped by the departure of bassist Andy Hamm and the death of singer Kelcey Ayer’s mother, finds the band substantially more subdued.
