Midnite, Madgesdiq

REED JACKSON
9 pm., Saturday April 20 | $22.
Roseland Theater
8 NW 6th Ave.

[LOVERS ROCK] For those who are into the whole peace, love and happiness aspect of the unofficial 4/20 holiday, an evening with Midnite—a roots reggae band from the U.S. Virgin Islands that preaches redemption through a life dedicated to Jah—might not be a bad way to ring in the holiday. But don’t pass the opener here, Portland’s own Madgesdiq. The former University of Oregon basketball star and cousin of former Trail Blazer guard Damon Stoudamire released a Northwest hip-hop classic in The Rebirth a little more than a decade ago. Since then, he’s focused more heavily on the reggae tip, but his old songs like “The Addiction” and “The Avatar” will always be loved for their spiritual and thoughtful vibe and could still serve as a soundtrack to the lush surrounding scenery of Stumptown.
