Joan Waltemath: Latencies

RICHARD SPEER
Tuesday April 16
Elizabeth Leach Gallery
417 NW 9th Ave.

Walking into Joan Waltemath’s show, Latencies, is like walking into an architectural blueprint. With their rigorous perpendicular lines, these abstractions combine rectilinear composition with subtle chromatic juxtapositions: beige against navy, sparkly zinc-black against gray; red against fluorescent lime green. Although the works are of uniform size (all 33.75 inches by 14.5 inches) and similar compositional method, somehow the show as a whole winds up feeling invigorating. Through April 27.
